The other night was like hitting it on the lines with every shot. A natural for once. No misses. On top off that were the emotions.
Of course I am talking about record playing.
First up was MC5, a chugging rock band that was supposedly at their peak with High Time. I was anyways. Next up was Mellancamp's Nothin' Matters and What if it Did and in particular Ain't Even Done with the Night For this one I knew it was from the nostalgia and a possible roller skating flashback. But then even Cooper's School's Out and a portion of Saving Private Ryan felt alright.
The memories I guess. Like when I first remember listening to electronic music from Wendy Carlos.
I have always had access to the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange and his Switched on Bach as a child. The sounds were so original to our minds back then. Scary even to a kid. Electronic music has stayed interesting I guess but the first pure electric analog sounds are still the best. I put the 2001 soundtrack onto this little memory shelf as well with the best science fiction books and their covers.
Fortunately I was able to keep the records as I grew and moved around. The other day I found Wendy Carlos' version of Clockwork. It has complete songs from the soundtrack. In particular I found Timesteps to be the most powerful. Now complete is a dangerous word for a collector I should note.
Anyways it took me back, way back. Look forward. Look back. Whatever. Good times.
